Many words look similar but are different from their usage and position in sentences. Keep in mind which one is adjective , which one is noun etc.

Example : ‘Vessel’ and ‘Vassal’.

Vessel’ is a noun. It means ‘Ship’.

On the contrary, ‘ Vassal ‘means to be someone’s slave. It is an adjective.

you can easily notice that’ vessel’ is not an adjective here. It’s noun and indicates ship.

‘poly’ and ‘mono’.

Many scientific words consist ‘poly’ and “mono’.

Poly‘ means more than two.

Mono‘ means only one.

For example : nucleotide means only one nucleotide cell. In contrast, polynucleotide means more than two.

Similarly, ‘saccharide’ is a carbohydrate. ‘Mono saccharide’ means only one carbohydrate. Also , ‘polyseccharide’ means more than two carbohydrates.
